  • Description:
What I want is a script or system to handle process of importing the "Internet Movie Database" (IMDb) text files into a FileMaker database. I am not seeking a one-time import of the current data, but a script or program that can process future versions of the files (assuming that they use the same file format, of course).

Note that the IMDb files, as provided, appear to be in a very non-standard file format. (See http://www.imdb.com/interfaces for relevant information about the Internet Movie Database and the plain-text files used to share the data.)

The IMDb data is provided as 48 separate files (total 2.15GB in text format). Unfortunately, the data does not appear to be in an easily-deciphered arrangement (there seem to be an arbitrary number of tabs between fields, for example, and some data is separated by single-quotes or parentheses, so the parsing will be somewhat more complex than just importing a tab-delimited file).

I assume that these 48 text files would end up being 48 separate tables within a single FileMaker database file, and that they would probably be "related" via a two-field combination (title + year), but I'm not really certain of this.

Please note that I will consider bids ONLY if they specifically disclose the bidder's pre-existing level of knowledge of (1) the IMDb data format and (2) FileMaker Pro 9.

Ask questions as necessary; bids that do not reflect a clear understanding of the scope of the project, or which do not clearly identify the technologies to be used, will be deleted.
