I need to have a Photoshop action written to automate creating a template for portrait composites like the sample attached. The piece is a 5x30 canvas with 8 3x3 images on it. Currently, I just store the 5x30 PSD file on my computer and use the same template every time by just dragging images under the template. This works fine for me, but I would like an action that will:
1. Speeds up the process and
2. makes it where a PS novice could more or less do it - so I can share the action with others.
Basically, I want the action to create a 5x30 canvas with 8 squares appx 3x3 - then somehow prompt the user to somehow select images, crop them and have them added to the piece and layer-masked to the different squares. So if the user had 8 images open on their desktop they would run this action and end up with the completed composite- with as little effort as possible.
Specifics:
I would like the action in two versions. One that is white (I will provide samples) with black strokes around each image and one where the background is black with white strokes around each image.
I would like for the action to work with CS2, 3, or 4 to maximize compatibility.
I am PC at the moment, but would like the action to work on MAC and PC (if that is an issue)
Nothing too complicted... just a bit beyond my PS skills! I'm sure a Photoshop Guru can knock this out pretty easily.
