Description: |
We use OEM software for building entrance control running on standalone computer/server. Software support from OEM is minimal. We need to improve this, but due to lack of software support, alterations to OEM software are not possible. The idea is to run Access parallel to the OEM software - based on the values in the datafiles, certain actions have to be completed in the OEM software.
The project scope is to improve entrance control for our various locations. An Access database with VB program is used to manipulate data stored in data files on the server (tested - this works).
However for this data to become effective in the OEM software, certain buttons have to be pressed (in the running OEM program). After that it needs to jump back to te Access database.
QUESTION : How can I perform actions in (running) OEM software driven by a VB script in Access. I need a script that performs certain tasks in OEM software as I were sitting behind the screen with the mouse.
Thanks for your time !

| in the windows API there are functions that can simulate keystrokes and mouse actions.
they can be called in VB and VBA via the DECLARE directive.
in some cases you can obtain the same effect with some SendMessage calls, that's more reliable because you don't need the destination application to have the focus to receive simulated user input.
I'll show some examples of such automations I've made from Access.
