Description: I have a MySQL database that performs very slow. I would like to have this database optimized or issues resolved to significantly increase its performance. This is a very large database and contains around 175 million records. The search querys work and produce valid results but take far to long. I need it to return results in a few seconds and wish to be able to search by all fields in the database. At one time it worked well but then when some records were removed that were older records it slowed a great deal. I have attached a document that shows one such search I just ran. The attached also provides a view of the admin area where prices and number of searches are set.

This project is not for you to design a site but I would like the search fields to be able to be accessed from the domain and not just the test area where they currently reside.

We have a database of similar size on the server and managed to get good performance but ended up using PostgresSQL to do it. If you wish to change this to PostgreSQL please indicate this when biddding. I don't know which is better other than do know the PostgresSQL worked better for our other database of similar size.

    Thank you for your consideration.
Additional Info (Added 11/15/2008 at 14:35 EST)...

As there has been questions about the hardware I want to explain. This databse is on a dedicated server with virtualy zero traffic on it. Most of the time there is no traffic. I am running four 2.5" 10,000 RPM drives in a RAID 0 and 8 XEON processors. Hardware is not the issue. Here are the full specs on this new server from Dell:
