osCommerce Expert needed to expand idea
We are looking to make a website that allows people to build instant internet stores.
This is a larger project and it may be best for it to be done by a team. It will require someone who is good at MySQL, Server Management, PHP, PayPal as well as design.
Basically here is the idea. We need so sell shopping carts to store owners, create an osCommerce cart and populate it and update it with items created in a master database. They then take orders and pay us the wholesale amount and we fill the orders.
In detailed terms here is what we need….
We are going to help people build instant internet stores. These stores will be hosted on our server, the users could even have access to cPanel if that is needed. But the main thing is that they will be set up with a shopping cart, they will also have 10-20 skins to choose from. I am thinking of using the osCommerce cart as the base, because it is open source and has almost everything we need. (If you know of a better cart we may be able to use it.)
The users will have their own domain pointed to our server, they also will also be able to upload, have a form where they can post in About Us, Contact Us and other information. They will also input their email address so they can get paid with PayPal. We could even make it where they can create new pages. They also will have a section they can choose where they could ad links. It all would work very much like the widgets and pages of wordpress. There will also be a stats page they could log into, this also will be much like wordpress or google analytics. We could even just set them up with google accounts. They will be able to add a footer and such to the cart. They will be able to set up coupons and even set up affiliates. They will be able to use to existing cart features to modify their cart. They will also be able to enter any items they wish into the cart. Much of what we are doing here is already in osCommerce so it will be easy. We will also need pages to market to and sign up new customers, this will be a page where they are able to pay us to set up a cart for them and to agree to a monthly charge. We will have a few different levels for them to choose from.
Up to now it is all common stuff, there are many companies that do all of this, in fact most all of this is already done and should be easy to copy.
Now here is the part where this project is different. We will create a master database of 1000's items. The people who buy these carts from us will be able to search through this database and “subscribe” to items, sections, entire classes, or even the entire database. Our database will have items such as computer hardware, clothes, tile, cameras and many other things. You will create an application for our staff to input these items into the master database. The master database will have the exact same format as the osCommerce item database. You will not have to input any of these items beyond a few test ones. Once people select what they want to have in their cart from the master database they will then be able to select a percentage markup of the wholesale cost, they also could choose to go with our suggested retail price. Either way the items that they select will be copied from the master database to the customer cart database. This will include photos, prices, specs, details, item reviews and such.
On their control panel they will also have an update button, this button will log into our master database and copy the new information for any items that have changed from the last time they hit this button, it will also remove any items that are no longer in the master database (Not including ones the customer added themselves.) If they have selected the entire master database or entire sections in it then any new items in those sections will be sent over. All category, sub category names will remain the same as the master database. After they hit the button it will display to them all the items that were changed, removed and added. They would also be able to set an option that will let it auto update once a day at a random time. (We do random so that all of the account are not doing it at once and killing the server.)
There will also be a feedback section so that customers of any of the stores can leave feedback for an item. If the leave feedback on any store this feedback will go into the master database and after the next update all of the stores that carry that item will see the feedback. It will look much like the item feedback on newegg.com.
When a customer orders an item they will pay with paypal directly to the store owner, including the shipping amount. The store owner will then be sent an automatic invoice from our company for the wholesale amount and shipping. This will also be paid with paypal. Once they pay this amount to us an order will be added to our order database so that we can ship the item. It will have the customer info, store owner info, and item/order info.
There should also be an accounting section where they can see what items are selling and for how much, They will also be able to track customer data, send emails to existing customers or people who asked to be on the mailing list. They can track sales data by day, week, month, year or any time period they choose. They can track sales by region, item, or referring URL over any time period. They will be able to see profit % and profit totals. (osCommerce does all of this already) There will also be something like this for us to see for all company data.
Our company currently sales about 2000 items in 30 different categories, and over 200 sub categories. You will not need to enter these items into the master database but only set up an application where our workers can enter these items, along with photos and such.
For now everything will be in English but there should be some room for multilingual and multicurrency support in the future, though everything will still go through paypay.
I have a server that can handle all of this. You can be given cpanel access. I would like this project to be done in 2-3 weeks but if it takes longer and I know up front that is ok. I would like this to be done mostly in PHP and mySQL unless for some reason you think there is something else better. I will probably take bids for a few days before I decide so be sure to enter your best bid.
There is a company out there doing something like what we want to do they are doba.com. We do not want to do something that large at this time but later we plan to do that. They are bad because they do not actually sell the items they have in the database, and their markup is so large that none of their users can make any money.
